What is Tyvek?
So what is this Tyvek® stuff anyway?
Tyvek® is a synthetic material made from polyethylene fibres. It's strong, tear resistant and hard wearing but can be easily cut, shaped and printed upon.
Tyvek® was developed back in the 1950s by DuPont who began commercial manufacture of it in the late 1960s.
Tyvek® has some amazing properties which make in not just great as a material for wallets but for many other purposes too. It's very light yet has a higher strength to weight ratio than paper and at the same time doesn't really absorb water. It is also tough and hard wearing but can still be recycled.
Other than Tyvek® Wallets, what else is Tyvek® used for?
You name it and they make it out of Tyvek®! Ok, slight exaggeration, but Tyvek® does have a myriad of uses.
Not as cool as wallets but incredibly useful, Tyvek® is used as a protective membrane by the construction industry when building houses. It's also used to make protective clothing and covers, all kinds of packaging and for a wide range of medical purposes.
More information about the uses of Tyvek can be found on the DuPont website. Take a look, it makes fascinating reading.
